Hypnosis is a natural human state, a true gift from life itself. We move in and out of states of hypnosis everyday. For example, when we read a book and become totally immersed in the characters they become real to us and we feel with them and for them and create the scenes vividly in our head. When we do this we are actually engaging in the same brain areas that we do in hypnosis. Similarly when driving a car we don't often remember how we got from A to B because our unconscious mind has taken over, this is a form of hypnosis too. Hypnotherapy uses hypnosis to make positive changes to our thought patterns and resulting behaviours.
All hypnosis is self hypnosis, in other words I will give you instructions to imagine things in a certain way and it is up to you to follow these instructions.
It is an altered state of consciousness into which you allow yourself to enter, with my guidance. You are in control all of the time, you will always know what is happening and you can come out of this altered state at any time in the same way you can snap out of a vivid daydream.
The hypnotic state can feel as if you are dreaming or daydreaming and is a natural form of consciousness which many people experience on a daily basis.
Within the hypnotic state the barriers to our inner thoughts and feelings can be bypassed so that positive suggestions made to the subconscious mind are acted upon much more powerfully than is possible in a normal state of mind.
Mental imagery can also be utilised to assist people to make changes in their lives. The subconscious mind does not distinguish between real and imagined experiences, which is why dreams can feel real . Therefore, huge shifts in thought and behaviour patterns can be made during hypnosis.
Hypnotherapy is used so that clients can create new positive realities for themselves and their perception of past traumatic or negative events which may affect their current behaviours can be altered.
There is also a growing body of scientific knowledge, psychoneuroimmunology, which is showing that the mind is directly linked to our immune systems, which means that techniques used in hypnotherapy can also affect our physical as well as psychological and spiritual wellbeing.
Clinical hypnotherapy can be used in an extraordinary range of presenting challenges such as:- anxiety, panic attacks, stress, trauma, addictions, depression, chronic pain, sexual dysfunction, PTSD, phobias, insomnia, fear of public speaking, allergies, sports performance issues, OCD, IBS and obesity, as well as many other issues.
